Joanna's Touch Photography

Last updated: 8 October 2026

At Joanna's Touch, I believe your personal information and precious memories deserve to be treated with care and respect.

I'm Joanna Brierley, the photographer behind Joanna's Touch, and I take your privacy seriously.

This policy explains how I collect, use, store and protect your personal information when you visit my website, contact me, book a photography experience or subscribe to my newsletter.

1. Who I Am

Joanna Brierley, trading as Joanna's Touch Photography, is a sole trader based in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

I am the data controller responsible for personal information collected through my photography business.

Website: www.joannastouch.co.uk

Email: joannastouchphotography@gmail.com

For any questions about your personal information or privacy rights, please contact me using the email address above.

2. Information I Collect

Depending on how you interact with Joanna's Touch, I may collect:

  • Your name, email address and telephone number.

  • Details of your photography enquiry or booking.

  • Information about the people attending your session, including children where relevant.

  • Photography preferences and details you choose to share.

  • Payment, billing and transaction information.

  • Photographs and videos created during your session.

  • Email subscription preferences and communications.

  • Website activity, device information and cookie data, where applicable.

I only ask for information reasonably necessary to provide my services.

Please avoid sending sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for your booking.

3. How I Use Your Information

I use personal information to:

  • Respond to enquiries and communicate with you.

  • Arrange, confirm and manage photography sessions.

  • Process payments and maintain booking records.

  • Photograph, edit and deliver your images.

  • Provide access to private photography galleries.

  • Handle additional photograph and print orders.

  • Send essential information about your booking.

  • Send newsletters and special offers where permitted.

  • Improve my website and measure advertising performance, subject to applicable privacy requirements.

  • Meet legal, financial and tax obligations.

Depending on the purpose, I rely on one or more lawful bases under UK data protection law.

These may include:

Contract: To provide photography services you have booked or requested.

Legal obligation: To maintain records required by law.

Legitimate interests: To administer my business, respond to enquiries and protect my services, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Consent: Where required, for email marketing, promotional photography and non-essential website tracking.

Where I rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

4. Photography and Your Images

Your photographs are a personal part of your experience, and I treat them with care.

Photographs are collected and processed to provide the photography services you have booked.

Your images are not automatically approved for publication simply because you have booked a session.

Where appropriate, I will seek separate permission before using identifiable client photographs for promotional purposes.

How Long I Keep Photographs

I generally retain photographs from client sessions for up to five years from the date of the photoshoot.

This allows me to support previous clients, assist with additional orders and respond to requests for replacement photographs.

After this period, images are reviewed and deleted when they are no longer required.

Portfolio and Promotional Photography

Where I have obtained appropriate permission to use your photographs for my portfolio or promotional purposes, selected images may be kept for longer than five years while they remain relevant to my business.

These images may appear on my website, social media, printed promotional materials or other agreed marketing channels.

I periodically review the continued need to store and use promotional photographs.

If promotional use relies on your consent, you may withdraw that consent by contacting me at any time.

I will stop the relevant use and take appropriate steps to remove images from platforms under my control, unless another lawful basis permits or requires continued processing.

Please be aware that photographs previously shared online may have been saved or shared independently by others, which may be beyond my control.

Children's Photography

I take particular care when handling photographs and personal information relating to children.

For promotional use, I seek appropriate permission from a parent or person with parental responsibility, and take children's interests and developing privacy rights into account.

5. Private Online Galleries

I use Pixieset to share and deliver photographs through online galleries.

Depending on the gallery settings and services used, Pixieset may process information such as your name, email address, selected photographs and gallery activity.

Your gallery may remain accessible for a shorter period than my standard photograph storage period.

Gallery links and passwords should only be shared with people you trust.

6. Email Marketing and Newsletters

I use MailerLite to manage newsletter subscriptions, Christmas Early Bird lists and photography-related email campaigns.

When you subscribe, I may collect your name, email address, subscription preferences and information about your interaction with marketing emails.

With your consent where required, I may send:

  • Christmas Mini Sessions announcements.

  • Early Bird offers and priority booking opportunities.

  • Photography news and seasonal promotions.

  • Information about other Joanna's Touch photography experiences.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in my marketing emails.

Unsubscribing will not affect essential communications relating to existing photography bookings.

7. Bookings and Payments

Payments may be processed using Stripe.

Stripe processes payment information according to its own privacy practices.

I may receive payment confirmations, transaction references and billing information needed to manage bookings and business records.

I do not receive or store complete payment card details through Stripe's standard hosted payment services.

Booking terms, including cancellation and refund arrangements, are provided separately.

8. Website Analytics, Meta Advertising and Cookies

My website is hosted using Squarespace.

I may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, understand visitor activity and measure marketing performance.

Essential Cookies

Some cookies are necessary for website functionality, security and remembering certain preferences.

These may operate without consent where a legal exemption applies.

Optional Analytics and Advertising Cookies

I use or intend to use Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of advertising on Facebook and Instagram.

With appropriate consent, Meta Pixel may collect information about visits and interactions with my website, which can help me understand advertising performance.

Meta may process relevant information under its own privacy terms.

Non-essential advertising and analytics tracking requires consent where applicable.

Visitors can accept, decline or manage optional cookies using the website's cookie controls.

You can change your preferences through the available cookie settings.

Further information about the specific cookies in use, including their purposes, providers and durations, will be maintained following a review of the live website.

  • Pixieset: Photography gallery delivery.

  • Stripe: Secure payment processing.

Depending on the service, providers may act as data processors or independent controllers.

I take reasonable steps to use appropriate service providers and protect personal information.

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where applicable, international transfers are handled using legally recognised safeguards or other permitted mechanisms.

10. How Long I Keep Personal Information

I retain personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed.

Session photographs: Generally up to five years.

Approved portfolio photographs: Potentially longer, while their continued retention and use are justified.

Financial and transaction records: For the period required by applicable tax and accounting law.

Booking correspondence and customer information: For the period reasonably necessary for administering bookings, handling queries and meeting legal obligations.

Retention periods are reviewed periodically. Information that is no longer needed is securely deleted or anonymised where appropriate.

11. How I Protect Your Information

I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse and disclosure.

These may include password-protected accounts, access controls, trusted service providers and secure storage practices.
